Recently we were approached to attend and sponsor an event supporting an awesome cause, and we jumped at the chance. America On Track was founded with a simple mission: to improve the social conditions of children that are under-privileged, under-served, and overlooked. Many of the children supported by this charity have one or both parents in prison. The program provides support through mentoring, and classes and activities that focus on health and fitness, gang and drug prevention, leadership, and academic achievement. Whether this means securing internet in the children’s homes, or providing a mentor to be a stable support system, America On Track is dedicated to helping kids in the program succeed.
The event last week, Pouring from the Heart, was a Tuscany inspired wine tasting with a raffle and silent auction to increase donations to the charity. An impressive ninety-seven cents per donated dollar goes directly towards the programs that help support these kids, so we knew our donation would be well used.
A few of the children in the program were at the event and it was great to talk to them about their positive experience with America On Track. After dinner a young girl, Michelle, stood up to speak to the crowded room. She was confident, eloquent, and funny, as she thanked America On Track and all of the attendees. Her short talk clearly moved the audience, and was an inspiring reminder of why any donation, no matter the amount, is vastly important.
Supporting charities like this is an integral part of our mission at BigFish Capital. We strive to remember how lucky we are and stay true to our commitment to making the world a better place.
